Location
A spot worth protecting
Just 20 minutes from Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, the sandy stretch of the Jaï is located in the town of Marignane, south of Lake Berre (L'étang de Berre).
It is accessible year-round.
The Jaï is a natural boundary between the Étang de Berre
and the Étang de Bolmon Nature Reserve.
You may only sail on the Étang
de Berre, within the areas marked on the map of the spot.
The INFO team (pink lycra) is there to answer your questions, as well as the members KITE13MARIGNANE

WEATHER CONDITIONS & SAFETY
Be careful not to drift
in front of the houses
If you're a beginner, Warning: the wind is very gusty and the water is rough. Please be careful.
If necessary, contact the Team Info in pink Lycra to keep you informed.
If you're just on your own, start by sailing in the appropriate area (toward Châteauneuf), and choose a day with moderate westerly or southwesterly winds (15–20 knots), which are best suited for your progress.
It is strictly prohibited to rig, launch, or sail in front of houses within the 300-meter range.
Extreme caution is required during takeoff and landing, since the beach is very narrow and there are many obstacles.

When the mistral exceeds 25 knots, sailing is
strongly discouraged for beginners.
Knowing when to let go is essential.
Safety is our shared goal.
It is by sharing our concerns and experiences
and communicating with one another every day
that we will make progress together.

BEST times
Kite all year round
The Mistral (northwesterly wind) blows year-round; thermal winds (westerly) are almost always present during the summer months (July and August), along with the southeasterly wind, which blows occasionally when low-pressure systems pass through the region, but especially in October and November.

Note that the water temperature is as warm
in summer (up to 28°C in August 2025) as it is cold in winter (8°C).
Data provided by GIPREB - Joint Association

Best wind directions
The beach faces northwest, so the Mistral—the prevailing wind—blows directly onshore.
A decent swell then builds up on the lagoon, offering good surfing conditions in the strong wind, which can be extremely fierce, sometimes exceeding 50 knots.
The stronger the Mistral, the more gusty it will be (calm at 20 knots, gusts up to 45 knots...).
The water turns into a massive minefield with large, choppy waves !
With a strong westerly wind
Riders are strongly advised against riding,
unless you want to end up in Berre.
From the south
Boating is not recommended!
Feel free to reach out to the team
in pink Lycra.
